The Paradox of our Time (found by AE Nel)

The paradox of our time in history
is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers
wide freeways but narrow view points
we speed more but never have enough time
we but more but enjoy it less
we have bigger houses and smaller families
more conveniences but less time
we have more degrees but less sense
more knowledge but less judgment
more experts but more problems
more medicines but less cures
we drink too much; smoke too much; spend too recklessly;
rough it too little; drive too fast and get angry too quickly.
stay up too late and get up tired
read too seldom and watch TV too much
pray too seldom but blaspheme too often
we have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values
we talk too much and love too seldom and hate too often
we have learned how to make a living but not a life
we've added years to life not life to years
we have been to the moon and back but have trouble crossing the street to meet a neighbor
we've forged into outer space but not inner space
we've done larger things but not better things
we are trying to clean the air but polluting the soul
we've split the atom but not our prejudice
we've written more but learned less
we plan more but accomplish less
we've learned to rush but not to wait
we have built computers to hold more information and produce more but have less communication
these are times of fast food and slow digestion
tall me and short characters
steep profits and shallow relationships
these are times of two incomes but more divorces
fancier houses but broken homes
these are days of quick tips and disposable diapers
throw away morality and one night stands
overweight bodies and the pill
that do everything from cheer to kill
It is the time of 2004.
